All updates live permanently in the Member Area on the website, should you ever need to look back for information. If you have any results or photos to share for the weekly update, please feel free to email membership@blackhawkct.com!
*Sign-ups are open for both the Men's and Women's Member Guest Tournaments. This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the progress at Blackhawk and encourage your guests to play here with us more often! The Restaurant has prepared a great menu for both events and we are sure to have a good time on the course. Don't wait to sign up!
Pace of Play
As we get into the busy season here at the club, we'd like to remind everyone of our pace-of-play policy. Our goal is to have all rounds completed in four hours or less, regardless of day, or time. If you would like to review a breakdown of the expected pace of play on the front, back, and during different playing times, please revisit here.
Golf Course Updates
Front 9 cart path paving will begin Monday, July 3rd. While we try to make this process as least intrusive as possible, please be aware there will be some small disruptions to play. Thank you for your patience during this process as the end result is a much more enjoyable experience!
Summer is here and Dollar Spot has reared its ugly head again. Over the last 10 days, Dollar Spot pressure has been high due to the recent increase in humidity and moisture. Dollar Spot is persistent all year but more so with the recent weather pattern, we are experiencing. This disease is most active with consistent 60-85 degrees temperatures, high humidity, and low nitrogen.
We have resistance to certain chemistries and with the help of the University of Massachusetts Stockbridge School of Agriculture, we have identified those chemistries that no longer control and which ones to use moving forward. I have attached this report for your viewing.
We have applied NEW chemical controls and we are on a 7-day application schedule. We have increased the Nitrogen load to the greens, we will continue the increase of Nitrogen through weekly low rates of foliar applications, “spoon feeding”. Other cultural controls we will be completing: Dew Removal, Light Topdressing, Rolling, Wetting Agent application, Organic Matter removal, and incorporating new varieties of bentgrass seed. The new seed varieties are the top performers and have been bred for their disease resistance. We would like to remind everyone to please replace their divots and repair ball marks on the greens as we work diligently to improve the conditions of our course.
Also, please be mindful of the fescue areas around holes 6, 7, 8, 10, and 11. Do not drive carts through these areas as we want to encourage and maintain the growth of the new grass. Please rake your bunker after your shot, and make sure to enter and exit on the "low side" of the bunker. Carts should travel on the paths and in the rough as much as possible, using the "90-degree method" to get to your golf ball. This practice reduces wear and tear on the grass and allows for the best possible fairway conditions.
Golf Leagues
Our Men's & Women's Leagues are underway – please join us for fun league play this season! No sign-up is required, so hop in any time!
