Update from our Head Course Superintendent

Dear Blackhawk Members,

As the snow starts to melt and we head toward spring, I wanted to share a few updates on some of the Blackhawk Maintenance team’s plans for the start of our season. I am aware of some of your most pertinent issues, and I encourage continued communication on ideas to improve the course for you & your guests.

Some early spring projects include:

  • Debris clean-up from winter storms.

  • Sinkholes and bare spots will be filled and seeded.

  • Brush clean-up around the course.

  • Spring aeration, core clean-up and top dress greens & tees.

  • Training staff for golf course set up

One project that will be a little more weather dependent will be the bunkers. Our plan is to get them all cleaned out, edged and filled with sand before the start of the season, however, we may still be working on it even once play starts. So please be patience with us and the process as we are still at the mercy of Mother Nature.

We are also trying a new chemistry to help with weed control this year. As I’m sure you noticed last season, we are now seeing goose grass pop-up around the Northeast. This has only recently become an issue in the Northeast, therefore most of the products used for control of Goosegrass were created for Bermuda grass or Zoysia. I am very optimistic seeing results other clubs in the area had last season for treating Goosegrass.

We are excited to get out there and look forward to seeing you on the course!

Thanks,

Bryan Zeiss

Head Superintendent
